The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Peking Union Medical University of China is a national key discipline, a national center for the diagnosis and treatment of difficult and severe cases in obstetrics and gynecology, a doctoral degree granting point under the National Education Commission, a postdoctoral mobile station in obstetrics and gynecology, a training base for resident obstetricians in obstetrics and gynecology under the Ministry of Health, a drug research base for obstetrics and gynecology under the National Medical Products Administration, and a national continuing education base for obstetrics and gynecology. Proficient in handling pregnancy complicated with acute and critical illnesses, as well as difficult internal and external complications, we have established high-risk maternal intensive care units (ICUs) and neonatal intensive care units (ICUs) to reduce maternal and perinatal mortality rates. We have established the first prenatal diagnostic laboratory in China and developed a complete set of fetal sampling methods.
